Where is India
India (Bharat Juktarashtra, Indian Union), State of South Asia bordered to the north by China, Nepal and Bhutan, to the east with Myanmar and Bangladesh, on the west by Pakistan. The peninsular area is washed by the Arabian Sea to the west and east by the Bay of Bengal (both are part of the Indian Ocean); Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar separating India from Sri Lanka.
Geography and territory
The territory of India can be divided in three major natural regions.
– Tabular plateau of the Deccan, formed by ancient rocks bordered by two mountain systems (Eastern Ghats and Western)
– The Himalayan mountain system (Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to the north, and northeast Assam) flanked to the west by the chain of the Karakoram
– The Indo-Gangetic plain, situated at the foot of the Himalayas, formed by recent alluvial deposits and ancient, tropical and humid in the east and in the west subdesertica corresponding to the Thar Desert.
The rivers that formed the Indo-Gangetic plain are the main rivers of India. The Ganges, the sacred river of India, born southern Himalayas, flows in a direction parallel to the Himalayas and flows into the Bay of Bengal along the Brahmaputra in a single delta. The Brahmaputra, was born in Tibet in southwestern flowing Chinese territory for most of its course, in India through Assam and enters Bangladesh. The Indus, whose valley is also important from the point of view of history having been the cradle of an ancient civilization, was born in western Tibet, flows north west across the State of Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan enters and flows into the Arabian Sea.
India has a tropical monsoon climate that varies according to altitude and distance from the sea. The climate is characterized by monsoons that blow from the southwest and the northeast. In the rainy season, from June to November, the monsoon blows from the southwest investing before the west coast and then gradually spreads across the country. Since the beginning of December to the beginning of March, during the cool season the monsoon blows northeast resulting in a dry temperate climate. The population of India is a mosaic of peoples formed through repeated migrations, invasions and mixing; the main ethnic groups that comprise it are: Indo-Aryan (72%), Dravidians (25%) and Mongols (3%).

When you go to India
The choice of the period for a trip to India, in terms of climate is oriented to avoid the monsoon season and the hottest months. For regions of Ladakh and Kashmir are preferred the months from May to October because the winter months are too cold. It’s not recommended the period from June to November because this time the monsoon rains affecting at different times the various locations of the country. In general they are to avoid the hottest months of May and June, preferring December and March that offer cooler temperatures and dry.
