Where is Latvia
Latvia, a parliamentary republic and EU member state, is located in north-eastern. It is bordered to the north by Estonia, to the east by Russia, to the south-east with Belarus and south by Lithuania, to the west is washed by the Baltic Sea. His land is flat, and wavy, hilly in the west and north east of the country, where rising small mountains that do not exceed 300 meters high above sea level, the highest point in the country is Mount Gaizina Kalns (311 meters above sea level ) and is located in the region of Vidzeme. A part of the territory lies below sea level and almost half is covered by forests.
The main river of Latvia is the Western Dvina (Daugava), which flows into the Baltic Sea as the other rivers flowing on Latvian territory, among them the Gauja, Lielupe and Venta. Among the many lakes in the country as estesto is Lake Lubanas, followed by the lake Razna. The deeper the lake Dridzis while Ezezers lake is famous for its many bays and islets.
Latvia’s climate is temperate cold, with cold winters and frequent snowfall. In summer the weather is mild, sometimes rainy, but there are sunny days with high temperatures.
The population consists mainly of Latvians, followed by Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Poles and Lithuanians. The Latvian people descended from the tribes of Latgalians, the Livonians, the Seli, of Semgalli and Curi (strain Balto Slavic), who inhabited these lands in antiquity.
