Located in Slovenia in the small town of Postojna, about thirty kilometers from the border with Italy and not far from Trieste, Postojna Cave represent a typical example of karst phenomena. Consist of a set of tunnels interspersed with spaces cave carved into the rock, the Postojna caves contain numerous stalagmites and stalactites formed over millennia by the continuous flow of water from an underground stream inside.
This stream, which is also seen on the outside near the parking lot, deposited large doses of calcium carbonate at the base of these rock formations. The temperature in this Postojna Cave is about eight degrees throughout the year with peaks very high humidity that lead experts to recommend appropriate clothing waterproof.
The visits are only guided and the most frequented path consists of a first portion carried on board a train and discovered a next stroke to be made to walk for a total of about ten kilometers, and a total time of ninety minutes.
