Where is Tonga
Tonga is an island state of Oceania consists of an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, south of Samoa and east of Fiji. The archipelago consists of 170 islands and islets, mostly uninhabited. The highest point of its territory is the Kao volcano (1,030 m) located on the island of the same name, in the Ha’apai group of islands. The islands grow aligned from north-east to south-west, forming two areas, the western and the eastern. The western sector consists of a dozen islands of volcanic small characterized by high elevations and profiles rugged and steep. The eastern sector, located on the edge of the pit of Tonga (one of the deepest ocean trenches), consists of limestone islands of coral origin, whose altitude is typically only a few dozen meters above sea level. The islands are divided into three main groups far apart over 300 Km. The northeastern end is formed by the Vava’u group of islands where the Vava’u island, the second largest island of the state for extension. At the center is the Ha’apai group of islands, consisting of many islands. To the south lies the group of islands Tongatapu, which constitutes half of the territory of the State. On the north coast of the main island, Tongatapu, is located the capital Nuku’alofa. Tonga also are part of the three volcanic islands of Niuafo’ou, Niuatoputapu and Tafahi within the group of Niuas, located north of the archipelago.
